BiodiversityConnectivity

Corridor connectivity maintained despite edge degradation

Despite significant edge degradation along the eastern boundary, landscape connectivity metrics remain above the critical threshold for large mammal movement.

Circuit theory analysis of land cover data shows that functional connectivity for tapir and jaguar movement corridors is preserved through three intact forest patches acting as stepping stones. However, the eastern edge is losing approximately 340 ha/year and requires prioritised protection.

Deforestation risk model underestimates road-proximity effect

Validation of the regional deforestation risk model reveals systematic underestimation within 15 km of unpaved secondary roads.

Ground-truth comparison shows the current model underestimates deforestation probability by 22–31% in road-adjacent areas. Recalibration using updated road network data from 2023 significantly improves prediction accuracy. A revised risk layer for this zone is pending review.
